Motorola’s David Schuster took to Google Plus today to give an update on the progress of Android 5.1 Lollipop testing for the unlocked 2013 Moto X. In his post, Schuster says that, if testing goes well, the update may arrive within the coming weeks. From Schuster:
We have addressed an issue we found in a previous soak test and should start full soak testing in the US and Brazil for retail later this week. If all goes well, full deployment can happen the following week.
In addition, Schuster says that it has begun full soak testing in France and Germany as well, and updates for Moto X owners in those regions should follow a similar timeline. Finally, if you’re stuck with a carrier device, Schuster says that the update is currently in carrier testing labs. While it’s good that it’s in testing, carrier updates usually take a bit longer to reach end-users, so, unfortunately, the timeline for release to carrier devices is up in the air.
